MV & EE : Barn Nova :: Review

MV & EE’s latest, “Barn Nova” is sandwiched somewhere between the droning Neil Young and Dinosaur Jr. comparisons to the spacey vibe that was evident on early My Morning Jacket albums.  There’s some filler on “Barn Nova’ with “Get Right Church” blatantly taking it’s guitar licks from “Long Tall Sally.”  The album highlight would have to be the doomy “Summer Magic” which calls to mind a frappe of 70’s guitar workouts.

What follows is pretty much more of the same which isn’t bad, but I couldn’t think of any other way to write about songs that recalled the entire Neil Young + Crazy Horse catalog.  So instead of going on and on, I’ll leave you with a haiku which sums up the album.  I’m sure that somewhere my former English teacher might be smiling.
