Royal Baths prep debut album for Woodsist, announce tour w/ The Fresh & Onlys

“Royal Baths haven’t had it easy. In a city where garage rock can reign supreme and new bands form and fade away with the blink of an eye, it’s tough to get noticed unless your songs can satisfy punk rock attention spans. But with four- to six-minute songs and slow, methodical drum beats, Royal Baths have won their way into the hearts of even the most raucous audiences–a testament to both the ability that San Franciscans have to recognize talent when they see it, but also to the incredible music and spectacle that the Royal Baths have created.

The band has its obvious influences–the Velvet Underground and Spacemen 3–but to define them by these comparisons would be to vastly oversimplify their sound. Songwriters Jeremy Cox and Jigmae Baer draw from psychedelic soundscapes; dark, personal, and esoteric subject matter; and a bit of punk’s apathetic humor and exigency. They conjure up haunting, reverb-heavy hymns to the degenerate and the broken.” – Emily Rose Epstein (SF Weekly, Thrasher Magazine, Drummer for Ty Segall)

Royal Baths are now Jeremy Cox and Jigmae Baer on guitar and shared vocals, Eden Birch on drums, and Eva Hannan on bass.

DR. DOG TO RELEASE FOUR NEW SONGS

September 8, 2010 by greg

Philadelphia-based rock and roll band Dr. Dog will be offering four new songs for free download to their fans beginning today. The band recently recorded a brand new batch of songs after spending the last five months traveling and performing in support of their acclaimed new album Shame, Shame. The four songs will also be available on a gatefold double seven-inch vinyl to be sold exclusively at venues on the upcoming fall tour.

Dr. Dog will release the first track today (September 7th) via their Facebook page (facebook.com/drdog) and additional tracks in the coming month. Fans can pick up the exclusive vinyl 7″ on the upcoming tour. Tour dates below.

Inspired by songwriter/guitarist Scott McMicken’s involvement and experience with Weathervane Music (weathervanemusic.org); a non-profit that creates community, opportunity and resources for independent musicians, Dr. Dog recorded and mixed four new songs in eight days. The resulting recordings offer a rollicking snapshot of a premier rock band in fighting shape from months of touring, joyfully rediscovering and further exploring their distinctive sound

The band’s latest album Shame, Shame debuted on the Billboard Top 50, and Rolling Stone heralded the group as “an unusually hook-savvy indie band whose taut, touching songs about friendship (“Jackie Wants a Black Eye”) and life on the road (“Station”) begin as straight pop rock and take thrilling turns into psychedelia.” The band won over audiences with exhilarating performances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Jimmy Kimmel Live! as well as two sold-out headlining tours and celebrated appearances at several prominent summer festivals including Bonnaroo and Sasquatch.

You can see Dr. Dog performing their new single “Shadow People” on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzSK9hLE9kQ

Field Music to return to the US for Fall tour

September 8, 2010 by greg

Following a self-imposed three year hiatus Sunderland, England’s Field Music returned with a new 20 track double album on February 16th, 2010. Powered, as ever, by brothers and co-frontmen Peter and David Brewis, Field Music’s line up now includes Kev Dosdale (guitar and keys) and Ian Black (bass).

Field Music released two acclaimed albums of unpretentious intricate beauty; 2006′s self titled debut and 2007′s Tones of Town both released on Memphis Industries/Revolver. Shortly after the release of the Tones of Town album Peter and David called time on the band playing their last show with Deerhoof in Leeds in May
2007.

The brothers sited the stifling “indie band” format as the main reason for putting “Field Music as a band” on hiatus and subsequently started working separately, but with a renewed vigour at their 8 Music studio.
2008 saw the release of two solo albums – David’s guitar heavy Sea From Shore album under the moniker School of Language and Peter’s highly acclaimed murder mystery themed Linn Drum, Fairlight and
marimba affair, The Week That Was.

After lugging their marimba around the world for a year as The Week That Was the brothers started writing and recording together in early 2009 with the intention of releasing the results under the name Field Music. The new record, Field Music (Measure) was released by Memphis Industries/Revolver on February 16th 2010.

Nominate this album art as the best album art you have ever seeen!  It’s been 3 years since Klaxons burst onto the music scene, injecting a dazzling and much needed moment of rave hedonism into the midst of indie tedium with the truly original and enormously influential Mercury award-winning album Myths of the Near Future.  The band is back with the eagerly awaited follow up, Surfing the Void. This ten track offering was produced in LA by rock legend Ross Robinson (Sepultura, Slipknot, At the Drive In, The Cure) and written over the course of a three year long musical journey, it’s a brilliantly diverse and engaging alternative rock record. While the record is now available to lucky fans overseas, stateside fans that can’t wait to download the album at iTunes on September 21st. The record will see a US physical release in the coming months on tinyOGRE Entertainment.

With the release of Myths of the Near Future the Klaxons burst into the consciousness of music fans everywhere, going platinum in the UK and gold in Australia, France and Japan. Their debut release earned the band a Mercury Award, two NME UK awards (Best New Band, Best Album) as well as two NME US awards (Best International Band, Best International Song). Surfing the Void is already a smash overseas, launching in the top 10 in the UK, France,Japan, Australia and Germany. Now it’s time for the full sonic explosion.

Kings of Leon “Radioactive” single and pre-order news

Oh, how I used to like Kings of Leon before they were popular and “Use Somebody” came out.  How I remember what the lads were like when they played Cincinnati for the first time and how they were shy little Southern imps who were nervous about performing.   Man, how things have changed aside from any Elmer Fudd comparisons.  Those Looney Tunes meet U2 comparisons will always remain.    Now, they’re unavoidable teeny bop heart-throbs who just want to “yuuuuussssseeeeee somebody…” bleah.  If you’re hip to them then all the information you need and could ever want is below.

RCA Records is excited to announce that “Radioactive” will be the first single from Kings of Leon’s new album, Come Around Sundown. It is set to impact radio on September 13th, with the video premiering on kingsofleon.com and Vevo the week before (September 8th).

Come Around Sundown will be released on October 19th, but available for pre-order via iTunes starting September 14th. Fans who pre-order the record will receive “Radioactive” immediately as a free download.  The album will be available in two configurations – standard as well as a deluxe version that will include bonus tracks.

The tracklisting for Come Around Sundown is:

The End
Radioactive
Pyro
Mary
The Face
The Immortals
Back Down South
Beach Side
No Money
Pony Up
Birthday
Mi Amigo
Pickup Truck

Come Around Sundown was recorded in New York at Avatar Studios and produced by Angelo Petraglia and Jacquire King. Kings of Leon have just begun the second leg of their 26-date North American tour that began July 9th in San Diego, CA. It will end in St. Louis on September 25th.

New : The Intelligence :: “Like Like Like Like Like Like Like”

September 2, 2010 by greg

To call “Like Like Like Like Like Like Like” by Seattle’s The Intelligence primitive would be an understatement.  If you know me, then you know that I’m all about the subtle nuances of music and the simplicity of songs.   Since that’s the case, “Like Like Like Like Like Like Like”  just might be one of the simplest songs that I have ever heard in quite a while.  While it hearkens to tunes of yesteryear, there’s something fresh about it’s insanely repetitive lyric. If I had less of a migraine, I would elaborate further.

Berlin Festival, Sept. 10-11, Partners with Berlin Music Week

September 2, 2010 by greg

The Germans are continuing to make their mark as a place of cultural relevance in the music and festival scene, not only in Europe, but around the world. This past SXSW ’10, several German  organizations hosted a lunch that brought together the best and brightest in German music. Now, Germany is celebrating their best in music, as well as International artists, with the upcoming Berlin Festival.

Berlin Festival will be held on September 10th & 11th at Berlin’s iconic, pre-WWII  Tempelhof Airport. The annual festival’s lineup includes LCD Soundsystem, Gang of Four, Hot Chip, Fever Ray, Editors, Boys Noize, Robyn, Peaches and many more. The festival, active since 2005 and always featuring a mix of international acts and German artists, boasts a larger lineup than ever this year. Not only does the lineup set the festival apart, but the unique historical setting of the  airport brings a rare intrigue to the festival, with its abandoned Nazi-era terminal being one of the largest buildings on earth.

This year, Berlin Festival is partnering with the inaugural Berlin Music Week, which runs from September 6-12th and will also feature club events, showcases, market places, workshops, sessions and more, including the newly rebooted Popkomm trade show. The goal of Berlin Music Week is to invite visitors and participants to discover new Berlin club culture, experience well known bands, make business contacts and discuss current trends in the music sector. To aide in the partnering of these events, Berlin Music Week has centered much of its events at the Tempelhof Airport.

Having now combined forces, the members of Berlin Festival, Berlin Music Week & Popkomm will return to SXSW in 2011, so look out for more to come from this pool of talent from overseas.

Berlin Festival 2010 Lineup:

Friday, September 10th
Editors, Fatboy Slim, LCD Soundsystem, Fever Ray, Atari Teenage Riot, Robyn, Adam Green, 2manydjs (live), Blood Red Shoes, Caribou, Erol Alkan, Junip, Herman Dune, Goose, Mit, Norman Palm, Zola Jesus, Barbara Panther, Amiina, Bon Homme, Le Corps Mince Du Francoise, De Staat, Spleen United, Megaphonic Thrift, Jesse, Cast Of Cheers, Therese Aune, Boemklatsch, Berlin Battery Crew feat.
