0Bands That You Need To Know: Ultraista
Ultraista is a band that you’re going to want to remember the name of as they’re going to be huge. I’ll tell you why they’re going to be huge, Ultraista contains producer Nigel Godrich and musicians Joey Waronker and Laura Bettinson. If you’re not familiar with Laura Bettinson’s name yet, that’s ok, you will be shortly. Joey Waronker is a name that you should recognize as he’s been a session drummer for a variety of acts including Beck, Atoms for Peace and The Smashing Pumpkins. Nigel Godrich should need no introduction as he’s produced your favorite albums from Radiohead, Beck, U2, R.E.M. and the list goes on.
Ultraista formed in London in 2011 based on their mutual admiration of Afrobeat, electronic music, visual art and tequila. Ultraista favors mantras over traditional choruses and repetitive, dense rhythms that burrow deep into your cranium. So do yourself a favor and check out the tracks “Smalltalk” and “Static Light” from their debut, you’ll be glad that you did. Ultraista’s debut arrives on October 2nd courtesy of Temporary Residence.
