Bands That I Dig : Lumerians
I’m taking a break in this post to briefly discuss a band that I’m totally into at the moment. Lumerians hail from Oakland, CA and are a Space Rock band that is completely awesome. Lumerians could be from another planet as the type of droney, hypno rock that they invoke from their instruments is by far the spaciest rock music that I have had the pleasure of hearing this year. This space rock that I speak of is taken from Lumerians’ debut, “Transmalinnia,” which just arrived courtesy of Knitting Factory on March 1st.
If your tastes linger to the more psychedelic and cultish then I believe you might have found one of your new favorite bands if the following artists share a spot near and dear to your heart in your record collection:
Wooden Shjips
White Hills
Spacemen 3
Hawkwind
Loop
Circle
The Heads
Cave
Cloudland Canyon
San Francisco’s Aquarius Records praised the band by stating that Lumerians were, “Easily, THEE space drone psychedelic hypno rock record of the year. Drop out, and dig in!” If that’s not enough of a recommendation, I don’t know what is. All I know is that you need to take a listen to this record, as I don’t think too many of the major indie news sources are running anything on the band, which is a crying shame. I’d take more from Lumerians any day over the tired retro-Beach Boys slop of Panda Bear! To further peak your interest, I have posted the unofficial video for “Burning Mirrors and the official video for “Gaussian Castles” Hopefully these two tastes will give you a general feel for the band!
