New : Frightened Rabbit :: My Brother Tom, The Green Beret

rabbi New : Frightened Rabbit :: My Brother Tom, The Green Beret

The cover is a bit of a departure for the band who opt for a home recording feel over the refined production of their most recent effort, The Winter of Mixed Drinks. While the song features frontman Scott Hutchison’s jangly guitar and his brother Grant’s driving percussion, the band explores new musical terrain as they channel purveyors of dark pop like Joy Division and Neu! as exemplified by Hutchison’s baritone vocals, echoey atmospherics and ringing synths.

Frightened Rabbit’s remake of the song will sit alongside a truly impressive host of contributors including The National, Jónsi, Mercury Rev, Tokyo Police Club and Tapes N’ Tapes, when the compilation, If a Lot of Bands Play in the Woods…?, a companion piece to the Philistines Jr.’s forthcoming new LP, is released this fall. The Philistines Jr. is the band of revered producer Peter Katis who helmed the Rabbits two critically acclaimed albums, his brother Tarquin, and Adam Pierce of Mice Parade, The Swirlies.
Frightened Rabbit is headed to Barcelona’s B.A.M. Festival this week to continue their festival onslaught and will return to the U.S. in October for a month-long headline tour, joined by Montreal’s Plants And Animals. They will kick off the run in Seattle on October 7.
