Neil Young : Dreamin’ Man Live ’92 :: Review

neilyoung dreaming cover 300x267 Neil Young : Dreamin Man Live 92 :: ReviewSomething has stirred in Neil Young to finally release his archival material.  Could it have been the perpetual complaints about this delayed project by the faithful that caused the typically cantankerous Young to relent?  Or did Young feel that audio technology had caught up with his demands for high quality sound?  Whatever the reason, there has been a deluge of material released with the most recent being “Dreamin’ Man Live ’92.”

“Dreamin’ Man Live ‘92” catches Neil Young on a solo tour playing songs that would eventually form his “Harvest Moon” album.  On “Dreamin’ Man,” the songs are simply played and unadorned from the embellishments that the Stray Gators would add.  Some of the songs benefit from the luxury of less is more such as “You and Me” and “Hank to Hendrix.”   The solo atmosphere adds a little more depth to others such as the previously glossy “War of Man.”  The performances on “Dreamin’ Man Live ‘92” are durable renditions of what has been released on “Harvest Moon” and “Unplugged” but with a few exceptions elicit few differences from the studio recording.

Die-hard fans of Mr. Young will want to seek this out, while others might want to wait for more performances from a different era.
