Now for more on the participating BANDS:
COLD CAVE
Cold Cave is led by musical journeyman Wesley Eisold (who served time with hardcore punk legends American Nightmare/Give Up The Ghost and Some Girls), joined by an orbiting line-up that includes fellow allies, Caralee McElroy (formerly of Xiu Xiu) and Dominick Fernow (contemporary noise icon Prurient). Love Comes Close instantly sold out when it was released in August and will be re-issued by Matador on November 3rd. The warm, rich synth pop sounds are laced with equal parts of romance and nihilism. Cold Cave is possibly the only band ever to have been compared to both Erasure and Whitehouse.

HARLEM
Led by dual vocalists Michael Coomers and Curtis O’Mara (the duo switch between guitar and drums, both onstage and off), Harlem started in Tuscon, AZ before relocating to Austin where they’ve generated a mountain of attention, both with their fantastic live shows and their self-issued 2008 LP/CD ‘Free Drugs’. Recently augmented by bassist Jose Boyer, Harlem recently recorded their 2nd album for release on Matador in 2010.
“a marvel of cartoonishly masculine, crudely analog brevity…They slap together the bare bones of a pop song, a slinky groove, and a silken shout, and manage to sneak their chorus into your memory. When they demand more room to move, they stretch the track to a relatively epic three minutes in “South of France”, giving them the precise acreage needed to quarter an army of crazy rhythms, one slyly submerged melody, and an apocalyptic breakdown.” - Pitchfork
“These dudes bust some super infectious, instantly endearing throwback garage-pop in the vein of the Black Lips, Strange Boys, and other assorted In The Red bands, but their own description of their sound (‘when kids are jumping on the bed playing tennis rackets like guitars. We are the music that is playing in their brains’) couldn’t be more perfect.” – Gorilla Vs. Bear

THE GOLDEN SILVERS
The Golden Silvers are making their first trip to the US during CMJ and we couldn’t be more excited. Their debut album, True Romance, was just released in the US and we have a sneak peak by way of an MP3 right here! http://www.beggarsgroupusa.com/mp3/GoldenSilvers_TrueNo9Blues(TrueRomance).mp3 This summer the band recorded with Hypnotic Brass Ensemble at Studio 13 (Damon Albarn’s studio in London) and the result is super impressive – we have one track, Arrows Of Eros, here! http://www.beggarsgroupusa.com/mp3/GoldenSilversHypnoticBrassEnsemble_ArrowsofEros.mp3 And lastly we have a link to a pretty awesome video they did for “Please Venus” http://www.youtube.com/user/thegoldensilvers#
“Offering their own spin on the early-Eighties repo job, this London trio forsake guitars, synths and alienation for pianos, harmonies and sticky sweetness, tapping into the soul and disco side of New Wave” Rolling Stone (3.5 stars)

HOLLY MIRANDA
Holly Miranda has recently signed to XL Recordings, who will be releasing her debut full-length album in early 2010. Holly has been singing for as long as she can remember. She first began playing in New York at age 16, when she dropped out of high school in Michigan, went to visit her sister in New York for a few weeks, and never turned back. She soon discovered the world of the East Village and started playing at places like The Sidewalk and meeting kindred spirits in the New York scene. Whether solo or with her band, she’s become an artist consistently able to mesmerize with her range as well as her songs. More Holly:

“Holly Miranda’s falsetto makes the walls collapse.” —Vanity Fair
“…a less fearful Cat Power, a more substantive Feist, a Norah Jones with actual feeling.” —New York Times
“Whether she’s performing a cappella or surrounded by a full, warm fuzz of music—as on her Dave Sitek–produced forthcoming debut—Miranda is a rare talent.” – Time Out NY
TITUS ANDRONICUS
Titus Andronicus hails from Glen Rock, New Jersey – a small, safe suburban enclave to the west of New York City. Patrick Stickles brings to Titus Andronicus one of the most distinctive voices that we have heard in some time. With breathless fury, he tells stories of life lessons learned that most folks spend their entire lives trying to verbalize – of simple twists of fate with grave consequences, of losing the ability to trust someone close to you, of the futility of life versus the finality of death. These are the stories of his life, stories with which we find common ground, but while most just think it, he’s up front, screaming it out for all it’s worth, behind a band raised in the ‘90s on punk riffs and FM radio.

THE xx
The xx are a London quartet, featuring the dual lead vocals of Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim (who also happen to play lead guitar and bass guitar), Baria Qureshi (keyboards and guitar) and Jamie Smith (beats, MPC sampler). These four twenty year olds are childhood friends (Romy and Oliver met when they were 2!). Bonding over a shared love of dark, emotive 80s guitar sounds and the high-end sheen of American R&B, The xx’s unique sound befits a band whose wide range of influences include everything from Aaliyaah to Cocorosie, Rihanna to The Cure, Missy Elliot to The Chromatics and Mariah Carey to The Pixies.
