Moby : Mistake :: Video

Moby will release “Mistake” the new single from his critically lauded album “Wait For Me” on September 15, 2009. “’Wait For Me’ is a very personal record,” Moby says, “For me “Mistake” is the most personal song on the album. It’s definitely the product of spending my adolescence listening to Joy Division and Echo and the Bunnymen.”  The digital-only release includes mixes from Lifelike, Yuksek, Maxime Dangles, Dabruck & Klein, Funkagenda, Soundfly System/Rusty Egan, and a classical interpretation by Davide Rossi.
The “Mistake” video, directed by Katy Baugh, is now live on Wired.com in addition to an interview with Moby by WIRED contributor, Frank Rose. It follows a compelling story of a love beyond boundaries; love between a lemon and a tennis ball. Yes, you read correctly.

Moby will tour the US this fall in support of his album “Wait For Me,” which has been hailed as “his best record in 10 years” by NPR’s Bob Boilen and a “return to form” by Rolling Stone.  “Wait For Me” debuted at #1 Amazon MP3 Album, #1 Amazon Electronic Album and #1 iTunes Electronic Album Charts.

The live show, which sees Moby on guitar, piano, percussion, and occasionally singing lead, is already making waves in Europe with The UK’s Evening Standard calling Moby’s a “virtuoso performance” and giving the event a 4-star review. In another 4-star live review, The Guardian UK called the performance “highly entertaining” and “as much a gig for the mind as for the feet.

Joining Moby on stage are additional vocalists as well as an additional percussionist, bassist and violinist. This will be the first time since 2005 that Moby has toured the US with a live band.

“Wait For Me” has also met with widespread critical acclaim. USA Today says it’s an “eerie, haunted collection of delicately atmospheric songs.Paste rated the album at 90% calling it “remarkable,” and American Songwriter hails it as “a return to what he does best.” The Associated Press says “Wait For Me” is “haunting…a fitting soundtrack for a David Lynch film.”

Fittingly, David Lynch created the video for the album’s debut track “Shot In The Back Of The Head.” Lynch also informed Moby’s inspiration for the album during a 2008 speech at the UK’s BAFTA Awards in which he stressed the importance of creativity over commerce. Moby took Lynch’s message to heart, eschewing professional recording studios for his home studio and working with vocalist-friends instead of well-known pop stars. The resulting album is Moby’s most personal release to date.
