The Telescopes : Singles Compilation 1989 – 1991 :: First Thoughts

l b552c97960c54b6da6d5f8984d3b4e82 214x300 The Telescopes : Singles Compilation 1989 1991 :: First ThoughtsWith the reunion of My Bloody Valentine and the recent reissues of Loop, The Telescopes and Swervedriver, 2009 seems to mark the return of shoegaze music.  I have recently discovered The Telescopes and they seem to be the band with the most droned and fuzzed out tendencies.  ‘The Telescopes: Singles Compilation 1989-1991’ seemed like a good place to start with this band, as I was not familiar with their back catalog.

The sound of the Telescopes runs the gamut from heavy Stooges like rock to ethereal soundscapes. The Telescopes went from an indie label to Creation Records where they honed their sound to perfection.  The compilation is great, and could be considered a primer in shoegazeology.  Standout tracks include, “The Perfect Needle,”  “Precious Little,” “Celeste” and “All A Dream.”
