Bloc Party :: Intimacy ::: Added Tracks :::: Review

41rezqvxstl ss500  300x300 Bloc Party :: Intimacy ::: Added Tracks :::: Review

This weekend I received notice that there were additional tracks available for the Bloc Party ‘Intimacy’ download.  I was skeptical to download these tracks, as this album has not aged well.  Initially, I was excited about this album and I gave it a “B;” but after the week of its release in August, I have not returned to it.   The new tracks include, “Talons”, “Letter To My Son”, “Your Visits Are Getting Shorter”, and the EP track “Flux.”

Of the new songs, “Letter To My Son” is listenable, but not great and also not offensively annoying.  “Letter To My Son” would have been better off had they removed the extraneous keys and overdubbed effects. “Talons” doesn’t work at all with its circa ’94 guitar riffs and chiming keyboards.  If the band Garbage was fronted by a man, this mess is what it would sound like.  “Your Visits Are Getting Shorter” should have been left as a b-side.  It is pretentious, campy and unbearable.

Oh yeah, “Flux” is now the closer for the album whereas the track “Ion Square” did the job.  Four bad additions to an album call for a new grade.  I’m going to downgrade and give “Intimacy” a “D-” now. It should have earned an “F” for the cover art alone, but I’m being kind.
