Mercury Rev : Strange Attractor :: First Impressions
Mercury Rev have released a companion piece entitled ‘Strange Attractor’ to their recent release ‘Snowflake Midnight.’ A proper album, ‘Strange Attractor’ is available as a download from the band’s website for free. ‘Strange Attractor’ is the more experimental side of Mercury Rev. On this album they have created a varied ambient landscape to traverse with your headphones.
Completely instrumental, most songs tend to be heavily electronic. Some songs are lush others might be icy. All songs on this release are able to create a mood. Standout tracks include, “In My Heart, A Strange Attractor,” “Love Is Pure” and “Nocturne for Norwood.” This album is a different path than the usual Mercury Rev release and it is completely enjoyable on its own merits.
