Spider-Man : New Ways To Die #1

New Ways To Die is the new Spider-Man storyline after last month’s mediocre new Kraven storyline.  As Marvel has been trying to renew interest in Spider-Man, they seem to have thrown a lot of new plots at him in the hopes that one would stick.  I understand they’re trying to introduce Spider-Man to a new audience, but does every new story arc have to contain Spider-Man’s origin?  Wouldn’t people interested in Spider-Man already know this information?

This issue began with a brief introduction to Spider-Man, and then focused on Peter Parker’s frustrating attempts at making money after being blacklisted by the new DB tabloid (Daily Bugle).  The storyline also focused on Norman Osborne and the Thunderbolts, as well as Eddie Brock’s sudden cancer cure.  I don’t want to give too much away, but I assume these events will lead to high drama in the storyline.  The writing is so abysmal on Spider-Man, it’s difficult to stay interested long enough to see how the plot develops.  One can only hope things improve quickly.
